Arya sat in the godswood, thinking on her day. She knew her father was disappointed in her and wanted her to be more like her sister and she had tried for him but she couldn't be what he wanted and be true to herself too. She hated thinking she was letting her family down but she hated the thought of having to marry even more. Arya rubbed her arm softly where it was still hurting after being hit with a wooden sword. She remembered how the older boy had laughed at her as she tried to reenact what she had seen her two older brothers do in their sword training. She felt tears sting her eyes, but not the sad kind the angry kind. More then anything she wanted to learn how to fight, to be allowed to one day compete in Tourney's for the honor of her house, but because she was a girl she was always stopped. She was fast and knew she could learn well if given the chance. She was already doing okay with a bow after the few times her brothers had helped her with it.
Arya punched at a tree in her frustration which only managed to gain her slightly skinned knuckles to add to her pain and frustration. She looked up when she heard approaching footsteps and quickly tried to get rid of the evidence of her tears. If her brothers saw her crying they would never take her seriously again and she then she might as well just give in to her septa and get used to learning how to sew and be a Lady.

Theon had been bored, which usually led to him getting drunk and or finding company in the brothel but he hadn’t felt the need today, which was odd. Instead of his usually debauchery Theon had decided to take up his favorite pastime, archery. Even practicing archery he couldn’t satiate his boredom. Finally Theon put his bow down and figured he’d go to the brothel, even if he wasn’t in the mood that would waste some of his time.
As Theon passed by the godswood, he always found it quite interesting to look on the place of worship as he passed by it on the way to a den of sin. Theon could hear noises coming from the godswood, normally he’d keep walking but it sounded like somebody was beating somebody else in there, and based on the sounds it sounded like one of the kids. Theon almost kept walking, but no he had to intervene if somebody was hurting one of the younger Starks. They weren’t even his family, why did he care? Theon walked into the godswood, his presence should be enough to scare away any bullies, and then he could continue with his day.
As Theon approached he realized it was Arya, and she was alone. Theon’s heart sunk if any of the other kids had been taking their anger out on a tree, he would have walked away, but little Arya was so full of energy, so very like his own sister that he couldn’t see her in pain. The little Stark girl was as much an outsider in her own family as he was in Winterfell. ”What did the tree do to you, little wolf? Or are you pretending the tree is your sister?” Theon knelt down to be on Arya’s level an genuine smile on his face.

Arya looked at Theon, resisting the urge to rub her sore knuckles. It never seemed to hurt the older boy when he did it and she wanted to prove she could be like them. In some ways she was glad it was Theon who found her. She found she could relate to her fathers Ward almost as much as she could relate to Jon. None of them really fit in Winterfell and in someways her family. "I've seen you do it before", she mumbled. "You always seemed happier afterwards", she continued.
Arya looked him in the eye when he knelt and shook her head slightly, "Not Sansa. The boys in the town laugh at me because I want to play with swords. They say a battle is not a ladies place and I should go back to my sewing needles", she replied, really the insults that had lead to the fight. "I don't want to be a lady, I am not like Sansa", her frustration at her lot in life was evident in her voice. "The boys laughed harder when I proved my uselessness in fighting. I was smaller then them, but they moved faster then I thought", she replied. She looked away from him, hoping he wouldn't laugh at her too.
